Search Inform was developed by SoftInform, a company that was founded back in ’95. The company specializes in developing “technologies of searching, storing and handling of unstructured information.”

One program the company has come up with is Search Inform Desktop Free. As the application’s name and this article’s title so obviously points out, Search Inform Desktop is freeware. This means you can use this piece of software without having to pay a dime. You can use it on top of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system.

You can install and use Search Inform Desktop Free only after you’ve downloaded the application, obviously. In this regard you should know that the download weighs in at some 16MB. The user that has to contend with a less than spectacular internet connection may have to wait a while for the download to complete.

Is the wait worth it? What can you do with Search Inform Desktop Free? The application was designed with a simple goal in mind: to search though vast amounts of data in a speedy and efficient manner. With that goal in mind, the development team at SoftInform came up with Search Inform Desktop Free, an application that significantly increases the quality of data processing and decreases time spent on search. This full-text desktop search application can be used to rapidly find necessary documents on your computer.

After it has been installed on your system, Search Inform Desktop Free asks you to create a search index. Browse though the customization options available in the tabbed interface to set up Search Inform Desktop Free as you see fit. These customization options let you select system attributes, morphology options (Russian only sadly), and the types of files you would like to index. The index can be updated at a time that you specify.

Creating the index may take a while, but it is worth it if you want to quickly search through your documents. Speaking of which, searching for documents is a very straightforward process – just enter keywords into the search box and press Enter. For extra accuracy, you can check out the advanced search options that let you find similar words, specify a range of relevancy, look for files that contain a particular phrase.
